Nestled between the beautiful McKenzie and Willamette Rivers in the Southern Willamette Valley, Springfield, Oregon, is a city in Lane County with a population of 62,353. The City Council, consisting of one person from each of six wards and a Mayor, sets overall City policy and establishes goals for the City. 

Reporting to the City Manager, the Development and Public Works Director is a critical member of the City’s executive management team and also serves as the Executive Officer for the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission. The City is seeking a personable, steadfastly strategic, and visionary leader who is passionate about local government. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and results-driven manager with a customer service focus who embraces the City’s organizational culture and champions its strategic plan. The diversity of this position provides an excellent launching pad for someone who aspires to be a City Manager.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, civil engineering, planning, or a related field. Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in development, public works, urban land use planning, or a related field is required, along with at least five years of management experience, including two years of executive management experience. A valid driver’s license at time of appointment is required. Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience may be considered qualifying. The hiring range for this outstanding opportunity is between $93,288 and $130,603, depending on qualifications and experience.
