Portland, Texas is a city of more than 15 square miles located across the Harbor Bridge from Corpus Christi. The City is everything you want in a family town with a current population of approximately 21,100. Portland is located in San Patricio County and is included in the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Statistical Area. Portland operates under the council/manager form of municipal government. This position falls under the Department of Public Works which includes 35 other employees and has a budget of $9.98 million.

The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must have three to four years of experience as a building inspector, city inspector, or a combination of the two. A valid Texas Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record is required. The Building Inspector must possess a Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners’ License and International Code Council (ICC) Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Certifications, or must be able to acquire the license and certifications within six months of the date of hire.
