Under limited direction of the Planning Director, the Assistant Director of Planning and Development Services provides leadership in establishing policy for the municipal planning, zoning, and development activities of the City.

The City of San Marcos is recruiting a highly ethical, dedicated, and hard-working urban planning professional with proven supervisory and managerial experience who can help San Marcos evolve into an even more attractive, livable, and sustainable community as its Assistant Director of Planning and Development Services. A bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field from an accredited college or university is required; a master’s degree is preferred. Seven years of progressively responsible, full-time work experience in municipal planning and development services, including supervisory and managerial experience, is required. The selected candidate must possess AICP certification within one year of hire date. Starting salary is between $100,000 - $120,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
