Chief of Police - Lakeside, CO
Summary
Title:Chief of Police - Lakeside, CO
ID:2777
Population:20
Description
The Town of Lakeside is seeking an experienced public safety professional to serve as its next Chief of Police.

Nestled in Jefferson County just minutes from the bustling City of Denver, the Town of Lakeside is a small but historically rich community covering just one square mile. With fewer than 20 residents, Lakeside is the least-populated municipality in Colorado. Despite its size, its unique charm lies in its namesake lake, Lake Rhoda, and the historic Lakeside Amusement Park, a beloved regional attraction that has drawn visitors since its opening in 1908.

The Lakeside Police Department operates with a team of 20 public safety professionals, 18 of which are full-time or part-time officers, working out of three divisions: Administration, Operations and Records.

Reporting directly to the Mayor, the Chief of Police oversees all aspects of the Lakeside Police Department, including personnel management, policy development, budget oversight, and community engagement. This key leadership role ensures the department’s alignment with the Town’s mission to protect and serve with excellence, fostering public trust and enhancing the safety and quality of life for all residents and businesses.

The ideal candidate will be a servant leader — humble, approachable, and an active listener — who is deeply committed to fostering trust, collaboration, and professionalism within the department and the community.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a master's degree preferred. Candidates should also have at least five years of experience as a lieutenant or higher rank and be a Colorado POST-certified peace officer. Out-of-state candidates will be considered, provided they can attain a provisional certificate before their appointment. Experience with a significant tourist attraction is especially desirable. With long-tenured support staff within the department, this is an excellent opportunity for a first-time chief.

Lakeside is offering a salary range of $114,768 to $189,255 for this position, depending on experience and qualifications.  Lakeside’s benefits include full medical coverage through Kaiser Permanente, defined benefit retirement plan offered through the Fire and Police Pension Association, and paid time off starting at three weeks annually.  In addition, employees are eligible to a free membership to Planet Fitness and the Chief of Police is eligible for a take-home vehicle, take-home laptop and a department issued cell phone.
