Description
The City of Terrell, Texas, with a diverse population of nearly 17,000 and a trade area population of over 250,000, is located 30 miles east of Dallas along Interstate Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 80.

Terrell is a home rule city operating under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor and four City Council members. The Terrell Police Department is a Texas local Government Chapter 143 Civil Service Agency with 40 sworn and 23 civilian positions, including the Animal Control staff. The department’s budget for 2018 is predicted to be $6.1 million.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree and must have 8-10 years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, with 4 years of supervisory and administrative experience at the minimum level of Lieutenant or Captain (based on rank responsibilities). The position requires experience TCOLE Advanced certification (or ability to obtain) and possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain) with a clear record. A master’s degree, TCOLE Master Certification, and the completion of an advanced Police Management/Administrative Development Program (FBI National Academy, Southern Institute for Police Administration, Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, Senior Management Institute, etc.) are preferred qualifications.
