The Juvenile Welfare Board (JWB) of Pinellas County, Florida, is a countywide independent special district organization governed by an 11-member board that works collaboratively with public agencies, nonprofit providers, and community partners to invest in the health and well-being of children and families.  The JWB provides a full range of services including Child and family services, Community outreach and partnerships, and Fiscal oversight and strategic investment.

The Budget, Accounting, and Program Finance Department provides financial leadership, oversight, and transparency to support the JWB’s mission. The Department is responsible for all general accounting activities, including agency accounts, capital assets, grant and payroll accounting, and the preparation of the annual budget and audit report. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, JWB’s next Director of Accounting/Controller should be a strategic and detail-oriented financial leader who can ensure regulatory compliance while advancing organizational goals. The position oversees daily accounting operations and financial reporting; leading internal and external audits; managing payroll and cash disbursement; preparing the  Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR); and supervising four direct reports.  Additionally, the Director of Accounting/Controller is responsible for reconciliation, treasury management, maintaining accurate fiscal records across the organization and compliance with financial standards and manages all accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have experience in governmental or nonprofit accounting, with a strong compliance, reporting, and strategic financial oversight background; possess high ethical standards and accountability with leadership and mentoring skills; proficiency in financial analysis; and an in-depth knowledge of GAAP and GASB.

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field, coupled with seven (7) years of progressive managerial experience in government or nonprofit sectors and demonstrated familiarity with GASB and Florida Statutes. Preferred candidates will possess a Master’s degree in accounting, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and have experience with Florida local government finance. The salary range for this position is $95,012  - $147,896 DOQ, along with an array of traditional benefits, Florida Retirement System and optional 457 deferred compensation retirement programs.
