Deputy Building Official is under the general direction of the Building Code Administrator. The Building Department is comprised of five divisions including Plan Review, Licensing, Sign Inspection, Inspection, and Permitting and operates with an annual budget of roughly $7.5 million and 63 employees. It is one of only 5 Building Departments in the State of Florida and one of only 24 Building Departments in the entire world accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). Deputy Building Official performs technical and administrative work in developing goals and objectives and in managing the function and operations of the department, providing managerial and professional support work in assisting the Director in the implementation and follow-up of designated projects. The Deputy Building Official also oversees the Inspection and Permitting divisions on a day-to-day basis.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree public administration, urban planning, business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university or have the ability to obtain the degree within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of building construction, with five (5) years being in a management level position, is required. The selected candidate must have possession of State of Florida driver’s license, and maintenance of a clean driving record. The final selected candidate must possess the Florida-mandated license requirement for Building Code Administrators at the time of appointment.
