Ideally situated in the northeast corner of the Panhandle/Plains area of scenic North Texas, the City of Wichita Falls, Texas is an economically progressive commerce hub offering residents an outstanding quality of life and world-class amenities in a charming, small-town atmosphere. Wichita Falls operates under the council-manager form of government, with a Council composed of seven members, including the Mayor, five district representatives, and one at-large representative.

The Development Services Department consists of four major operating divisions including Planning, Building and Code Administration, Neighborhood Resources- which includes the CDBG Grant Management and HOME Program, and the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. The department has an operating budget of $6.7 million and 35 employees.

The City seeks qualified applicants for the position of Director of Developmental Services. Under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the purpose of this position is to lead and proactively manage all activities within the  Development Services Department including direct oversight of the Building Inspections, Planning, Code Compliance, CDBG, and Housing divisions, as well as several primary functions including neighborhood revitalization, development  review, downtown, and solutions-oriented customer service improvements. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred, as is AICP certification. The selected candidate must have 7-10 years of progressively responsible planning and community development experience, including at least 5 years as a director or assistant director. Experience in downtown redevelopment and neighborhood revitalization is desired. The City of Wichita Falls offers a starting salary between $120,000 and $135,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
