The City of Round Rock, Texas, located just 15 miles north of downtown Austin, is one of the fastest growing and best-managed municipalities in Texas. The City of Round Rock operates under the council-manager form of government. The Round Rock City Council is comprised of a Mayor and six City Council Members. The Council appoints the City Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. The City employs 921 staff, and its current overall budget is $325,468,887.

The City seeks a positive, proactive, and well-rounded leader to be its new Assistant Director of Transportation. The Transportation Department is responsible for the planning, maintenance, and operation of transportation infrastructure, including new street construction, street maintenance, traffic signals and signs, construction inspections, and public transportation. Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, the Assistant Director will assist in the department’s project development process, coordinate the consultant selection and contracting process, and coordinate long-range transportation planning efforts. The Assistant Director oversees the Transportation Capital Improvement Program, may represent the Transportation Department within various regional bodies and organizations, and represents the department on land development-related matters. 

The ideal candidate will possess excellent decision-making skills, with the ability to make tough calls on sensitive issues, and must be able to think broadly in the best interests of the City. The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning or a related field and should have five years or more of experience in transportation planning/management in either the public or private sector. A Professional Engineer license is preferred.
