The City of Cape Girardeau is succession planning for their Finance Director who will be retiring. The City is seeking qualified applicants for the Deputy Director of Finance to work alongside the Finance Director until his retirement.

The City of Cape Girardeau serves a growing population of 39,000. The city is located between St. Louis and Memphis on the Mississippi River and Interstate 55. It is home to Southeast Missouri State University and serves the region as the hub for employment, education, retail, recreation and healthcare, with a daytime population exceeding 100,000.

The City of Cape Girardeau operates under a council‐manager form of government with the Mayor elected at‐large and six City Council members elected from their respective wards. The City has a $60.2 million operating budget with 408 full-time employees, a $15 million capital projects budget, and a Standard & Poor’s National Municipal Bond rating of “A+.” Major City departments include Administration, Development Services, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related area; a master’s degree is preferred. This position requires at least five years of experience in municipal finance, three years of relevant supervisory experience, and demonstrated knowledge of the principles of governmental budgeting and accounting. A Certified Public Accountant is preferred. The starting salary range is $68,000 to $85,300. The Finance Director salary range tops out at $113,500.
