Ideally situated in north central Texas, Dallas County has a population of almost 2.5 million and is the ninth most populous county in the United States. Dallas County encompasses thirty diverse, growing cities, with a vibrant, well-educated population. Dallas County is governed by a Commissioners Court, which consists of the County Judge (the chairperson of the Court) and four Commissioners. The Commissioners Court serves as the legislative and executive branch of government, with budget authority over most county departments. The County hires a County Administrator who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Commissioners Court and implementing policies and directives of the Commissioners Court.

Operating under the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism, the Purchasing Department oversees the County’s procurement operations and contract management activities and is responsible for effectively advertising and recruiting vendors to bid on a variety of goods and services, ensuring the quality and performance of all vendors. The department develops and implements procurement and contract administration practices and programs for the County and provides guidance and support to departments and agencies in developing purchasing requests. The department also provides support for many 24/7 operations, including law enforcement, the County jail system, and the Juvenile Detention Center. 

Dallas County seeks a creative, service-oriented professional with exceptional leadership skills to serve as its new Purchasing Director. The selected individual must have a well-rounded background and progressive experience in government procurement. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in purchasing, business administration, or in a job-related field of study is required, as is 10 years of professional work-related experience in purchasing, including 3 years of management experience beyond the supervisory level, is required. The selected candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to Dallas County. This position requires a valid Texas Drivers License and a good driving record.
