Conveniently located about an hour north of Dallas and four miles south of the Texas-Oklahoma border, Denison, Texas, is a dynamic city with a welcoming, small town atmosphere. Operating as a home-rule city with a Council-Manager form of government, the day-to-day operations of the City are vested with the City Manager. The City Council is comprised of the Mayor and six Council members. The Director of Community and Development Services is a member of the City’s executive team and assists with the leadership and management of several key departments, projects, and priorities. Management oversight includes planning and zoning, building inspections, code enforcement, animal control, parks and recreation, library, and cemetery, comprising around 45 full-time positions and total budgets of over $5 million.

A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree in public administration, planning, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of local government experience is required, with at least two (2) years of management experience. A background in planning, economic development, redevelopment, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
