Amarillo is the 14th largest city in Texas in terms of population and is the county seat of Potter County. Amarillo citizens enjoy some of the lowest water and sewer rates in the state and some of the lowest gas and electric rates in the nation. 

The Amarillo Solid Waste Collection department provides for the safe and efficient collection of residential and commercial solid waste within the City limits, which includes a combination of fully automated containerized trash collection and curbside hand-pickup collection, recycling, and coordinated alley collection for limbs and big/bulky items. The FY2017-2018 Solid Waste Collection budget is $9.7 million and includes 103 full-time positions and two part-time positions, and the Solid Waste Disposal budget is $4.5 million and includes 42 full-time positions and two part-time positions. Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works, the Solid Waste Superintendent supervises, coordinates, and directs the operations of the Collection and Disposal Departments for the City of Amarillo.

The City of Amarillo is seeking a Solid Waste Superintendent who is a progressive leader with a proven track record in implementing best practices. The selected candidate must have a bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience in the solid waste industry. A minimum of five years of supervisory/management experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Class A letter of competency from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and valid Texas Class A driver’s licenses- or the ability to obtain one- are required.
