Description
Lubbock, known as “The Hub City,” is situated at the center of the scenic South Plains, between the Permian Basin and Texas Panhandle. The City is home to more than 250,000 residents who enjoy the area’s mild climate, beautiful sunsets, and a wide range of recreational and cultural amenities. Lubbock is a Home Rule city operating with a council-manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of the Mayor and six City Council Members. 

The largest animal shelter on the South Plains, Lubbock Animal Services is committed to caring for the more than 15,000 animals annually rescued from Lubbock. It is an open-door shelter that provides lost and found services, animal adoptions, humane education, cruelty investigations, and enforces the laws regarding animals for the City of Lubbock. Lubbock Animal Services also accepts animals from outside the city limits for a fee. The City is seeking a progressive and dynamic individual to serve as its Director of Animal Services. 

This position requires three to five years of administrative and supervisory experience in governmental services, health, or other public or social services. A bachelor's degree in animal science, public health administration, health, science, public administration, or a related field is preferred; experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. The selected candidate must be trained as a Texas Animal Control Officer or have the ability to obtain training within one year; must have a Texas Operators license; and must possess Euthanasia Certification or have the ability to obtain certification within one year. A valid current drivers license and a physical exam are also required.
