The Traffic Engineering department is responsible for the planning, design, and operations of all traffic control devices. This includes the placement of traffic signs, traffic signals and pavement markings. Under the general supervision of the Transportation Superintendent, the Traffic Engineer provides assistance of executive level management control over the Traffic Administration department.
 
The City of Amarillo seeks a Traffic Engineer who has strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate information to commissions and the public. The successful candidate will have the ability to solve problems and exercise sound judgment in situations where no standardization may exist. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, or Traffic Engineering and a minimum of six years of project design experience. Three years of managerial experience is preferred. The selected candidate must be licensed as a professional engineer with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. A valid Texas driver’s license- or the ability to obtain one- is required.
