The City of Midland, located in West Texas, is the midpoint between Dallas/Fort Worth and El Paso along I-20, with an estimated population of 133,183 (2015). Midland is a rapidly growing city with a thriving economy. The fiscal year 2016-2017 operating budget is $239,690,890 with a Fire Department budget of $25,908,549.

The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Midland Fire Department is staffed with 215 sworn fire protection personnel and 6 civilian employees. The department includes 11 stations, one of which serves Midland International Airport. In addition to Fire services, the City of Midland operates ambulance service for the community.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A progressive record of command experience with a range of assignments is required; experience as Chief in a comparable department is preferred. Advanced training such as the National Fire Academy is considered a plus. New firefighters are all required to obtain their paramedic certification after hire.
