Texas City, Texas, is a centrally located waterfront community in Galveston County on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay. The City is composed of 63.8 square miles of land area and 121.7 square miles of water area. Texas City is part of the Houston–The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area, with easy access to I-45, which connects Texas City with Galveston and Houston, as well as Kemah, Clear Lake, and Hobby Airport. Texas City operates under the strong mayor form of municipal government. The City Commission consists of the Mayor and six Commissioners. Under the general direction of the Mayor, the Director of Public Works administers the operation and management of Public Works Department, including Street & Bridge, Construction Services, Building Maintenance, Fleet Management, Rainwater Pump Stations, Sanitation, Utilities, and other duties as required.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field and have five to seven years of experience in municipal public works administration or a related field. Preferred qualifications include Professional Engineer by the Texas State Board of Professional Engineers, and experience managing a diverse workforce. The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $130,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
