The historic City of DeLand is situated in central Florida between Daytona Beach and Orlando. DeLand covers 17.6 square miles and is home to more than 32,755 residents who enjoy the small-town, neighborly feel of the community with the benefits of big-city amenities nearby.

The City of DeLand operates under the commission-manager form of government. The City Commission is comprised of a Mayor and four City Commissioners. The next Fire Chief will report directly to the City Manager. The DeLand Fire Department has an annual operating budget of approximately $4.6 million. The department is comprised of 47 employees, operating out of three fire stations.

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in fire science, public administration, business or related field, and must have 10 years of progressively responsible work in fire and EMS services, with at least five (5) years of experience in high-ranking command positions. Experience in comparably-sized cities and/or departments is preferred. Knowledge of all facets of the fire codes, fire prevention, fire suppression, and emergency management is required. The chosen candidate must have a state of Florida Firefighters Minimum Standards Certification, or the ability to obtain within one year of appointment, and an EMT/Paramedic Certification. A graduate of the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy is preferred. The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver license, or be eligible to obtain one after appointment, and must live within the city limits of DeLand within one year. The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 DOEQ.
