The City of Arvada is a home rule city operating under a council-manager form of government. Voters elect the Mayor and six City Council members who serve four-year terms. The Arvada Police Department is a very young department, with a number of officers nearing retirement and only a few mid-career officers. The Police Chief directly supervises six full-time staff: Executive Assistant, Deputy Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Field Services, Internal Affairs Sergeant, and Public Relations Coordinator.

The City of Arvada seeks a visionary, relatable Police Chief with a proven track record of success. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and team player who works well with other city departments and is engaged with the community and will be able to lead, motivate, and develop Police Department personnel while fostering an environment of accountability and continuous improvement. The Chief will serve as a visible spokesperson for the Police Department and must handle all interactions with tact and diplomacy. The selected individual must hold a master’s degree in public administration or a related field and have ten years of experience in areas relating to policing, including five years of command officer experience. An equivalent combination of education and related experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered. POST police officer certification is required within 12 months of hire. A valid Colorado driver license- or the ability to acquire one- will be required. dual
